Digital mapping of soils of the Upper Rio Grande Basin.
Soil survey is a traditional activity, in which, at first, it was carried out almost solely by manual work with the aid of aerial photographs. Over the years, new techniques involving remote sensing and geoprocessing have been incorporated. Digital soil mapping uses fieldwork and tools for remote sensing and geoprocessing, also encompassing quantitative techniques for the prediction of soil classes. This provides benefits such as the recognition of regional soil patterns and the possibility of predicting the occurrence of different soil classes in unmapped areas. In this way, this work aimed to develop an application for mobile devices in the Android platform, allowing users to obtain information about the classification of soils in the Upper Rio Grande Basin from geoprocessing resources. The application has features that allow the user to click on the soil map, enter a coordinate (circular or Cartesian) and from the current GPS location of the user to obtain information about a specific point. As a result of user actions on the functionalities a window will appear with information about the point, information such as: area (in km²), soil class and the map unit unit legend. In addition, the application works without the use of connectivity, because there will be situations where the user will not have access to the internet or their access will not be of quality. The application developed so far has features to obtain information by clicking on the map of soils, insertion of coordinates and determination of the current location of the user via GPS.
