Lumenoscope

Lumenoscope is a digital optical artifact, an instrument that allows to observe both the visible and hidden dimensions of light in real time.

It's similar to other optical devices like the telescope, microscope, periscope and other such instruments, that help to discover and unlock the secrets of the world and the universe.

Throughout the history of art, observing light and its encounter with matter has been an essential gesture in painting. Chiaroscuro, tenebrism, impressionism.

In "The Secret Knowledge" David Hockney presents evidence that could prove the use of optical instruments such as the camera obscura, predecessor of the photographic camera, by some masters of painting such as Jan Van Eyck, Caravaggio or Vermeer.
